Varicocele disease is the most common cause of detectable male infertility.
Stating that this disease, which is characterized by enlargement, tortuosity and varicosity of the scrotum veins, can occur during adolescence, Urology Specialist Op. Dr. Tansel Kaplancan explained the treatment of varicocele disease.
Varicocele disease that develops during adolescence can prevent the growth of the testicles and damage testicular functions. Varicocele disease, which causes no symptoms in some people, should be treated with microsurgical varicocele surgery if it occurs during adolescence.
By surgically treating varicocele diagnosed during adolescence, it is possible to correct the problems caused by varicocele, such as reduction in testicular size and deterioration in testicular function, and to preserve fertility in the coming years. Therefore, it is important not to delay treatment when this disease is diagnosed at an early stage.
Symptoms of Varicocele in Adolescence
Varicocele is a disease that may not cause any symptoms and can be described as insidious in this sense. In some people, it may cause different symptoms such as pain in the scrotum, difference between testicle sizes, veins that become prominent in the scrotum, pain during or after exercise.
During adolescence, varicocele can usually be diagnosed by recognizing the symptoms and applying for health checks. At this point, it is very important for parents to be aware. Because varicocele is essentially a vascular disease and is more common in young people with vascular problems in the family.
TREATMENT OF VARICOCELES
During the diagnosis of varicocele in adolescent males, physical examination findings, medical history, hormone tests and Doppler ultrasonography are used. Sperm analysis is usually not used in this age group. As a result of the examinations, the presence of symptoms such as decreased testicle size or pain in patients brings the option of microscopic varicocele surgery to the agenda.
Scientific studies have shown that patients who experience varicocele problems during adolescence and undergo surgical treatment have improved testicular size and normalized testicular function to a great extent.
